Performance Optimization

The performance tuning of the ECU is designed to unleash the real performance of a petrol or diesel engine.

It is ideally used in situations where the extra power and torque is required for example moving extra heavy loads, running optimised acceleration, experiencing a wider torque window or simply to enjoy your vehicle.

Many engines on the current market (petrol and diesel) are limited in performance to guarantee the lower possible emissions and limit the fuel consumption at high loads. Let's think about a practical example:

Mercedes A 45 AMG has on the actual market the highest specific power engine (190hp/liter). Why should a BMW M4 equipped with a a twin-turbocharged develop ''only'' 450hp (150 hp/liter)?

This engine has the same displacement per cylinder (500cc) and can also benefit of a twin turbo to provide a better throttle response and an increased low-end torque. This is one of many examples in which the engine is running with huge margins on peak torque and power.

Three performance stages are available

  • STAGE 1: This is the basic performance upgrade (but also the most significant) of your car. Performance gains (torque& power) are commonly around 20-25% for a turbo petrol and diesel. Small gains in fuel economy are also expected in most areas where the engine operates at part load (99% of the time). Fuel economy at full power (higher than before) is going to decrease since we are going to modify the maps to allow a higher air mass flow in the cylinder and consequently more fuel to get more power.

  • STAGE 2: The stage 2 gives the maximum performance to the engine (but always within the hardware limits) without compromising the fuel economy of your vehicle (at part load). Gains of around 10% are expected compared to the stage 1. This is particularly achieved when the customer commit to use high performance fuel and by maintaining the engine in healthy running conditions.

  • STAGE 3: Stage 3 improves the performance gains provided by the stage 2 but hardware changes of the engine are necessary. Depending on the hardware installed the power and torque gains are theoretically unlimited.
